“GET CONNECTED” VOLUNTEER FAIR
May 24, 11a-2p
Murrells Inlet

Local residents can learn more about and volunteer at many of Georgetown County’s nonprofit organizations during a “GET CONNECTED” VOLUNTEER FAIR to be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

The “GET CONNECTED” VOLUNTEER FAIR, which is open to the public, will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is being hosted by NBSC Bank at 3796 Highway 17 Bypass, Murrells Inlet. Grilled hot dogs and other light refreshments will be served.

The Volunteer Fair will highlight opportunities for prospective volunteers to “Get Connected” with Georgetown County’s many nonprofit organizations and services needing volunteers, while celebrating the important role that volunteerism plays in Georgetown County.

GET CONNECTED is Georgetown County United Way’s new virtual-based volunteer database – http://getconnected.gcuw.org – which offers its nonprofit partners new opportunities to reach a growing community of potential volunteers and advocates. Georgetown County’s nonprofits can register with GET CONNECTED and provide information about their programs and volunteer needs, while prospective volunteers can register with their contact information, interests, and availability. An easy-to-use web-based platform, GET CONNECTED matches interested volunteers with the right volunteer opportunities for them.

According to Pat Strickland, CEO of the Georgetown County United Way, “the volunteer is the heart and soul of every nonprofit in the county. GET CONNECTED provides an opportunity for the citizens of Georgetown County to stay in touch with the volunteer needs of the nonprofit community and participate with the agency of their choice.”

The “GET CONNECTED” VOLUNTEER FAIR is a project of this year’s Leadership Georgetown County Class XXI – a program of the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce – in partnership with the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce, Georgetown County United Way, Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation, and other leading organizations and companies in Georgetown County, SC.
